About Us - The Staff

Anne Robertson – Principal – L.I.S.T.D - A.R.A.D.

Mrs Robertson started her career in teaching at the Grandison  College in Croydon at the tender age of 16.  She moved to the Berkshire area in 1964 and found herself teaching at the La Roche School of Dancing in Slough soon after the birth of her first daughter Helen.  Mrs Robertson founded the Sholen Academy in 1972 after the birth of her second daughter Shona.  As an ISTD examiner Mrs Robertson has travelled extensively examining around the UK.  Although now in her eighties she still teaches occasionally, and is always there in the background offering her invaluable experience and supporting her staff.  She can be found at the school on Saturday mornings keeping a careful eye on the running of the school.

Moira Ellis

Moira has been teaching ISTD Ballet for Sholen since the beginning, offering endless support to all.  She herself was a former pupil at La Roche, taught by Mrs Robertson until its closure.  Her two daughters have attended the school and now her granddaughter enjoys learning to dance, taking part in the shows and projects that the school offer. Moira runs our satellite branch at Wexham on a Wednesday and was the Manager at the well respected Beehive Nursery in Fulmer, still returning to support the school now.

Shona Jenkins - A.I.S.T.D.

Having trained at Sholen, Shona has been teaching here since she was 18.  She runs the ISTD Modern and Tap faculty of the school.  She has two daughters who are following in her footsteps.  Shona is the driving force behind our regular shows not only teaching and rehearsing but sourcing all of the wonderful music and costumes.  She is a qualified stage make up artist and always available to advise the pupils on their stage make up for festivals and performances.  She also teaches all of the festival pupils.  Shona is a primary school Teaching Assistant and Registered RBWM Chaperone.

Charis Ridley - R.A.D. BA Hons

Charis teaches the RAD syllabus to the children who want to take their ballet a little more seriously.  Adding an extra class each week in ballet further strengthens the children in this, the most important of all dance subjects.  Charis graduated from the RAD and has grown up in a dance school and teaches here at Sholen and at Babel School of Dance.  Charis is also a Registered Chaperone with Slough Borough Council.

Helen Smith

Helen can be found on Saturday mornings racing round providing coffee and cakes to the staff, parents and pupils!!  She runs the administrative side of the school.  Helen is also responsible for the School Shop offering pupils the opportunity to buy the correct uniform at the most competitive prices without lengthy visits to the shops.  Of course with an extensive background in dance, Helen is always on hand to help out the pupils.  Helen is also a registered chaperone with the RBWM.
